Use of Name Committee

Johns Hopkins Medicine leadership, through its marketing and communications office and the school of medicine dean’s office, established the Use of Name Committee to interpret and administer the principles outlined in the Potts report. The committee reviews proposals and requests to use the marks, as well as managing other matters related to use of the Johns Hopkins name.

The committee works with faculty, staff, Johns Hopkins Medicine member organizations and their leadership to advise, recommend and make determinations regarding appropriate uses of the marks by Johns Hopkins Medicine and outside individuals and organizations. The committee recognizes that appropriate uses of the marks in connection with our educational, research and clinical missions can strengthen our reputation and help disseminate knowledge about our innovations in medical education, biomedical discovery and health care delivery. Opportunities to advance our brand must be balanced with careful protection of the marks to ensure their uses are accurate and consistent with institutional policy, mission and interests.

The Use of Name Committee works closely with Johns Hopkins Medicine Marketing and Communications, Johns Hopkins University Communications, Johns Hopkins University and Health System legal offices, the Office of Policy Coordination, and other key leaders and stakeholders.
