Letter from the Dean

Welcome to the Johns Hopkins Medicine branding and use of name website.

Johns Hopkins Medicine stands for excellence and integrity in research, teaching and clinical care. Every use of our name and logos conveys an association with Johns Hopkins Medicine and potentially affects the institution’s reputation. Some uses are appropriate and desirable; others are potentially damaging and must be avoided.

We’re here to help you understand all about our brand: what it is, why it matters and how you can use, protect and strengthen it with every piece you create.

Our brand is our legacy and a consistent representation that supports all our efforts of who we are as an organization, in everything we say, everything we do and every decision we make.

Nearly a century and a half ago, our founder, Mr. Johns Hopkins, wrote a letter in which he established his vision for and values of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Those values — respect, dignity, integrity, inclusion, excellence and diversity — have withstood the test of time and still ring true today.

Correct and consistent use of our name and logo is an effective shorthand way to capture the essence of Johns Hopkins and reflect the shared missions of our organizations. This website contains important guidelines and tools for protecting and enhancing the Johns Hopkins Medicine name.

Thank you for visiting our website and for following our policies and principles.
